First Annual Call for Essays

The Sejong Society of Washington, D.C., is proud to introduce its first annual call for essays on U.S.-Korea relations and Korean affairs. The purpose of this new initiative is to give students and young professionals an opportunity to publish original essays in any discipline for wider dissemination to the academic and policy communities. We will select up to ten essays that are judged to provide fresh and well-informed perspectives on U.S.-Korea relations and Korean affairs.

Eligibility:
College or university students (undergraduate or graduate) and young professionals under 35 years of age.
Entry Deadline and Format:
• The deadline for entry has been extended to May 28, 2010
• All papers must be submitted in electronic format via email to sejongsociety@sejongsocietydc.org .
• Selected papers will become the property of the Sejong Society, though we will gladly cooperate with authors wishing to republish their work elsewhere.
Benefits:
Authors of up to ten selected essays will receive a cash prize of $100 and be given an opportunity to present their findings at a Sejong Society-hosted academic conference at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C.
The Sejong Society plans to publish selected papers in its first annual issue of an academic journal designed to disseminate the findings to the academic and policy communities.
Standards:
While the essays should be academic in nature, we are primarily looking for creative ideas on matters with some relevance to U.S.-Korea relations and Korean affairs. Submissions should be between 1,500 and 5,000 words and may be in any discipline. Each essay will be judged blindly and ranked by a panel of academics and Sejong Society board members.
